Is India moving towards information society? a quest for truth

Hi, It is me Md. Ziaur Rahman, lecturer, Department of Library and Information Science, NBU. I am really wonder about the hottest topic of discussion of the Information professionals, Officials of governement bodies that they are claiming that India is moving towards information society? Is it really exist? We know that India is still live in her villages where 50% of peoples are illetarate. Around 40% of people lying below the poverty level. Most of the people even dont know how to read and write. Even the condition of these people are known to all. In this prevailing situation how we can say that India is moving towards information society? As far my knowledge concern that in information society at least half of the people will be engaged in information and knowledge related work. There lifestyle, work pattern must be influeced by the information and its exploitation. But does it really so ? we need your comment?
